Finding Your Perfect Fit: A Guide to Lingerie Sizing
Share
Welcome to our ultimate guide to finding the perfect lingerie fit! We believe that the right fit isn't just about looking good—it's about feeling confident, comfortable, and beautiful from the inside out. Unfortunately, many of us are wearing the wrong size, which can lead to discomfort, a less-than-perfect silhouette, and a lack of confidence.
At Boldlior, we're here to change that. This step-by-step guide will walk you through how to measure yourself and what to look for, so you can find intimates that feel like they were made just for you.
Step 1: Grab Your Tools
Before you begin, you'll need two things:
-
A soft measuring tape: Make sure it's flexible and not a stiff ruler.
-
A mirror: A full-length mirror is ideal so you can see your body from all angles.
For the most accurate measurements, it's best to wear a non-padded bra or no bra at all.
Step 2: Measure Your Band Size
Your band size is the number part of your bra size (e.g., the "34" in 34B). This measurement determines the support around your ribcage.
-
How to measure: Stand up straight and wrap the measuring tape snugly around your ribcage, directly under your bust. Make sure the tape is level all the way around your back.
-
What to do with the number: Round this number to the nearest whole number. This is your band size. For example, if you measure 33.5 inches, your band size is 34.
Step 3: Measure Your Bust Size
Your bust size is used to determine your cup size, which is the letter part of your bra size.
-
How to measure: Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust. Again, ensure the tape is level and not too tight.
-
What to do with the number: This number is your bust measurement. Do not round this number.
Step 4: Calculate Your Cup Size
Now for the magic! To find your cup size, simply subtract your band size from your bust measurement.
Bust Measurement - Band Size = Cup Size
Each inch of difference corresponds to a different cup size:
-
1 inch = A cup
-
2 inches = B cup
-
3 inches = C cup
-
4 inches = D cup
-
5 inches = DD/E cup
-
6 inches = DDD/F cup
-
And so on...
Example:
-
If your band size is 34 inches.
-
Your bust measurement is 36 inches.
-
36 - 34 = 2 inches.
-
This means your size is a 34B.
Beyond the Tape Measure: Look for These Signs of a Great Fit
A tape measure is a great starting point, but the best way to know if your bra fits is to pay attention to these key signs when you try it on:
-
The Band: The band should feel snug and secure, sitting parallel to the floor both in the front and back. It should not ride up your back. A well-fitting band provides about 80% of your bra's support.
-
The Straps: The straps should feel comfortable on your shoulders without digging in. They should not be providing the main support—that's the band's job!
-
The Cups: Your breasts should fill the cups without spilling out over the top or sides. There should be no gaping or extra space in the cups.
-
The Center Gore: The center part of the bra that connects the cups (the "gore") should lie flat against your sternum. If it's lifting away from your body, your cup size is likely too small.
A Note on Sister Sizes
If you're between sizes or want a slightly different fit, you can try a "sister size." A sister size has the same cup volume but a different band size.
-
To go down a band size: Go up one cup size. (e.g., A 34C is a sister size to a 32D).
-
To go up a band size: Go down one cup size. (e.g., A 34C is a sister size to a 36B).
Don't Forget About Other Lingerie!
This guide is primarily for bras, but the principles of fit apply to all of our intimates! When shopping for panties, sleepwear, or bodysuits, always refer to our size chart on the product page and consider the following:
-
Panties: Look for a fit that doesn't dig in at the waist or legs.
-
Bodysuits: Ensure the length is right for your torso, so it's not pulling or sagging.
-
Sleepwear: Consider whether you prefer a loose, relaxed fit or something more form-fitting.
